Assessment Centres
How can you make sure you have the right people with the correct skills, abilities and personality to fit your organisation?
The use of assessment techniques enables you to search for the particular skills and values that your organisation needs. Research has shown that assessment centres based around competency-focused exercises are the most accurate predictor of future performance.
Iridium has successfully undertaken design, development and facilitation of assessment centres for a range of 'blue chip' clients including major telecommunications companies, major defence contractors and leading education organisations. You can call Colin Graves now on 07881 636538 to discuss your requirements or read on.
Why Choose Iridium?
Iridium has run assessment centres for some of the UK's leading organisations.
We have in-depth knowledge of how to design your centre successfully.
We know how to handle the complex logistics involved in making a centre successful.
We have the experience and so we are pragmatic to balance the theory with the reality of achieving outcomes quickly.
We are flexible and work directly with our clients.
We are independent and so source exercises from a variety of suppliers, as well as using our own material.
We are professional and never lose sight of the need to also make the assessment centres an enjoyable experience for all involved.
What is the difference between an Assessment Centre and a Development Centre?
Both assessment centres and development centres use the same techniques, however a development centre is typically used in-house with existing staff and leads to on-going development whereas an assessment centre is used primarily for selection. For more information on development centres see our separate section.
What is an Assessment Centre?
A process not a place • Several Candidates (4-12) observed together • Multiple exercises • Opportunity to observe behaviour • Observation made by trained observers • A systematic assessment process is used based on competencies • Candidates able to demonstrate skills and abilities, not just talk about them
•
Produces a yes/no decision
Assessment Centre Design
Your assessment centre from Iridium will be tailored to your exact needs taking into account your organiation's culture and the competencies that you value. If necessary we will work with you to put a competency framework in place. As we are truly independent you have a wide range of different exercises to chose from: developed by ourselves as well as sourced externally. Alternatively we can design bespoke exercises for you.
Typical assessment centre exercises include;
competency based interviews
fact finding
in-tray exercises
group discussions
analysis and presentation exercises either individually or in a group
negotiation exercises
individual presentations
indoor and outdoor 'building' exercises
numerical reasoning tests
verbal reasoning tests
Personality Questionnaires and 360 Degree Feedback
Our consultants are accredited users of a range of personality questionnaires that can be included in your assessment centre. The most commonly used questionnaire is OPQ. We can also facilitate 360 degree feedback if required.
Assessor Provision and Training
Iridium can provide assessors and/or can train your staff to assess at a tailored half day assessor training workshop.
Outcomes
The outcome from an assessment centre is a balanced judgement on each candidate enabling a selection to be made. Iridium's consultants are trained to facilitate the moderation of 'scores' at the end of an assessment centre.
