Myers Briggs Type and Leadership
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a valuable tool for leaders.
Firstly it provides a non-judgemental way for leaders to gain self-understanding and self-awareness. A wide range of research has shown that self-awareness is a key ability of succesful leaders. By understanding the impact they make on others leaders can better modify their styles contingent on the situation rather than relying on a ‘one size fits all’ strategy.
Secondly the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator provides a way for leaders to better understand others and so, create strategies for dealing with people different to themselves whether they be peers, subordinates, clients, stakeholders or media.
